Snowplow Sam Program
Beginners - age 3.5-5yrs
Are you excited to introduce your 3.5 to 5 year-old to the wonderful world of ice skating? At Deep South Ice & Sports Complex, we have the perfect place for them to begin their skating journey—our Snowplow Sam Program!
Whether your child dreams of becoming a graceful figure skater, the next NHL hockey star, or simply wants to confidently enjoy skating on an outdoor rink during a family vacation to New York, the Snowplow Sam program is the perfect first step.
The exciting part is that every skater starts by learning the same fundamental skating skills. These essential techniques form the foundation for figure skating, hockey, speed skating, and recreational skating, giving your child endless opportunities as they grow.
Our fun-filled 30-minute Snowplow Sam classes are specially designed for young children ages 3.5 to 5. Every skater begins in Snowplow Sam 1 and progresses through Snowplow Sam 3, building confidence and developing skills at their own pace. Our goal is simple—to get your child moving, gliding, stopping, and skating backward with confidence as quickly as possible, all while having an incredible time on the ice!
Learn to Skate Registration Opens Soon
Rather than standing in long lines, skaters rotate through a variety of exciting activity stations where they are constantly practicing new skills under the guidance of our experienced, Learn to Skate USA qualified instructors. We teach coordination, and strong fundamental skating skills in a fun and engaging environment. By the time your child graduates from Snowplow Sam 3 they’ll be able to skate forward and backward, stop safely, and glide on one foot—an amazing achievement for such young skaters! Most importantly, we want every child to leave the ice with a smile on their face and excited to return the following week. Our mission is to make learning fun, inspire a lifelong love of skating, and open the door to all the incredible opportunities our sport has to offer.
What You Need to Know
All participants require an annual Learn to Skate USA Membership @ $20 per season
For Hockey, Figure Skating, Recreational skating
Free rental skates are available
Helmet (Optional but Recommended): Free rentals available. Future hockey stars—get used to helmets from day one! (No full hockey gear allowed.)
Clothing: Warm but flexible clothing is best. Gloves are strongly recommended.Spectators: Parents may watch from the rink area (bring a jacket!) or relax in the foyer
Schedule: Tuesday or Thursday evenings, or Saturday mornings (final times coming soon)
Session Length: 8-week program, 30-minute group classes Start Date: TBC

We anticipate that Snowplow Sam classes are one of our most popular entry programs, and space is limited each session. We strongly encourage early registration to secure your preferred day and time
Schedule
Saturday only classes until Second rink opens. First class starts September 26th.
Make -Up Class/ Refund Policy

Skaters may make-up their scheduled class on another day subject to certain rules: -

A maximum of TWO Make-Up classes will be allowed per semester.

Make-Up classes have to be completed within the same semester

Due to class testing Make-up classes cannot be scheduled on the last week of classes.

In some cases, Deep South Ice & Sports Complex may provide an account credit instead of the make-up class. This credit can be used to purchase future Learn to Skate class registrations.

A cash refund can only be issued to those who provide a doctor's note or provide a valid reason for cancelation.
